In the 5th Edition of the WAC GP, fighters from 6 alliances gathered in EFC to determine a champion. Everybody started the WAC chasing the 4-time defending champ The Lebowski Crime Syndicate, who jumped out to a lead after the 1st Round.
The 2nd Round quicly separated the contenders, as Nemesis (26), Drunken Bums Association (24), and the Beaver Wrecking Crew (21) took over the top 3 spots. TLCS had 2 DQ's and only 2 fighters moving past the 2nd Round, and fell out of contention.
The 3rd Round didn't see a change in the Top 3, and the lead grew 1 point for Nemesis over DBA, while BWC closed their gap to 4 points behind the leader. Nemesis goes into the Championship Round in control of their own destiny, if they win both of their Championship fights it will be impossible for anyone to catch them. DBA has 2 guys in Championship matchups as well, and would need to knock off Nemesis in the WW division as well as take home the HW Division to become champ. BWC is competing in 3 championship fights, LW, LHW, and MW. BWC will need to sweep their 3 championship fights, at the same time knocking off Nemesis in a pivotal LW matchup, and would also need Nemesis to knock off DBA in WW.
The Championship round started off w/ a pivotal LW victory for BWC over Nemesis cutting their lead to one. Nemesis 34, BWC 33, and DBA 31 all were within 1 fight of bringing home the Gold. The WW championship was a big 4 point win for Nemesis over DBA giving them a little beathing room, but w/ Nemesis' matchups over they had to sit and watch as BWC controlled their own destiny down 5 w/ 2 championship fights to go. DBA fell down 7 points w/ only 1 championship matchup left so they were eliminated, and placed a respectable 3rd place. The MW division lead to some confusion, as possible spoiler Soviet sent their fighter to the wrong location. He missed the fight and was DQ'd, giving the victory to BWC and narrowing Nemesis' lead to 2 points (38, 36). The LHW matchup was the deciding factor as BWC needed a win over TLCS to claim those extremely valuable points, and BWC came through in the clutch w/ a KO and the first World Alliance Championship Grand Prix won by someone other than TLCS. Their final score of 40, was enough for a 2 point victory over Nemesis.
A very balanced field showed up for the WAC GP, which was a pleasant sight considering the competitions history... the alliances answered my personal challenge & not only took the gold, but knocked us completely off the podium. Is this a changing of the guard, or the waking of a sleeping giant... only the next WAC GP will tell,
CONGRATS TO THE BEAVER WRECKING CREW
Special mention to Nemesis, who put up their best effort & was within inches of bringing home the gold with only a few members in their alliance.
