Round 1 After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Akimoto works Jay into the cage from the clinch. Akimoto presses his head under Hayness chin so he cannot defend the piston shots from either side. Jay Haynes drops to a knee and attempts a takedown from the clinch. Tadashi Akimoto shifts his hips to get better position in the guard. Tadashi Akimoto locks a triangle but Jay defends well. Tadashi Akimoto continues the attempt but finally decides to let go. Jays face is red from the choke and sits low in the guard to catch his breath. Tadashi Akimoto lands a stiff elbow while on his back. The round comes to an end.
Round 2 Akimoto attempts a takedown but slips, and Haynes backs away. Haynes is standing over Akimoto. Jay stands over Akimoto, works his way through his open guard and lands some solid standing punches. Akimoto is able to grab an arm and pull Jay into his guard. Tadashi Akimoto is almost caught in a omoplata but is able to work his way back to guard. Jay distracts Tadashi Akimoto with peppering shots. Jay then isolates a leg and sinks a achilles lock. Tadashi Akimoto is able to force his way out but gives up mount in the ensuing scramble. Jay punishes Akimoto with a series of strikes from the mount. Tadashi Akimoto gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Jay lays into Tadashi Akimoto with some strong shots forcing Tadashi Akimoto to give up mount position. Akimoto bucks Jay Haynes off and sweeps him over getting into his half guard. Round 2 is over.
Round 3 A wild hook from Jay is ducked by Tadashi Akimoto who lands a cross-hook to the body before backing away. Tadashi Akimoto connects with a series of punches forcing Jay Haynes into a clinch. Jay Haynes attempts to grab the plum but is tripped to the floor by Tadashi who lands in his guard. Tadashi Akimoto sits up in Jay Hayness open guard and spins to an leg lock. Haynes is able to gator-roll out of it and make it to standing. A trip to the ground allows Haynes to move into the guard of Tadashi Akimoto. Tadashi Akimoto locks a triangle but Jay Haynes defends well. Tadashi Akimoto decides to let go of the hold. Tadashi Akimoto begins to work the rubber guard. Jay Haynes tries to move to half guard but Tadashi uses the opportunity to land several strikes and return to full guard. The bell signals the end of round 3.
Round 4 Akimoto takes a heavy kick to the arm attempting to block his head. Haynes connects with a leg kick then a hook to the side of the head. Tadashi Akimoto throws a wild punch, putting him off balance. A few well timed strikes from Jay Haynes puts Tadashi Akimoto on the mat giving his back up. Tadashi carefully protects himself from Hayness strikes. Akimoto is able to make it back to the standing position. Tadashi is staggered by a jab to the chin. Jay dives in for a takedown but the momentum of the attempt ends in a scramble back to their feet. Round 4 is finished.
Round 5 Tadashi hits a hard jab but misses with the follow up straight. Tadashi hits a hook to the body and follows with a power straight that misses. Both fighters trade shots and back away looking for the next opening. Jay Haynes hits a hard jab but misses with the follow up straight. A trip to the ground allows Tadashi to move into the guard of Jay. Jay starts to lock a triangle. Akimoto postures up and Akimoto settles for a few stiff chops to Jay Hayness face. A tight body triangle from the bottom position forces Tadashi Akimoto to pull Jay close. Tadashi Akimoto is having trouble breathing in Jay Hayness guard. Round 5 is finished.
