Round 1 "Cookie Monster" parries a jab but is hit with a powerful knee to the midsection. "Cookie Monster" throws a cross that easily dodged by Whelan. Round 2 Mark Whelan connects with a strong right hook. Renaud attempts a striking combination, but Mark Whelan forces the clinch. "Cookie Monster" is in the clinch with "The Real Deal", and changes levels for a beautiful double leg takedown. Mark backs out of the guard after some unsuccessful motions and both fighters are standing. Richard connects with a series of punches forcing Whelan into a clinch. Richard Renaud attempts to pull guard, but slips, putting him on the ground, and with Mark standing over him. A solid kick bruises the leg of Richard Renaud. Round 2 is over.
Round 3 Renaud takes a heavy kick to the arm attempting to block his head. Mark sends "Cookie Monster" to the mat with a well timed jab, falling into his guard. Mark drops some good punches while being caught in the guard. A kimura attempt is defended well by "The Real Deal" and he is able to sneak his leg through Richard Renauds loose guard, to half guard. "The Real Deal" tries to pull his leg out of half guard, but no luck. "The Real Deal" slips out of half guard and into side control. Richard gives his back up in an attempt to get out of side control. "Cookie Monster" starts to wiggle out of back control, Mark Whelan lets him escape putting them both on their feet. "The Real Deal" parries "Cookie Monsters" jab and connect with a cross. The bell signals the end of round 3.
Round 4 "The Real Deal" keeps Richard at a distance with some well timed jabs. Whelan lands a strong outside leg kick that buckles Richard. "Cookie Monster" attempts to press in on "The Real Deal" but is met with powerful inside-leg kicks. Richard Renaud lands a double jab. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.
Round 5 "The Real Deal" lands multiple inside leg kicks that have "Cookie Monster" circling away. Whelan lands multiple inside leg kicks that have Richard Renaud circling away. Richard Renaud is sent crashing to the mat by a powerful right hook. "The Real Deal" grabs a foot and kicks at Renauds thighs. He then backs off and "Cookie Monster" stands back up. Mark Whelan connects with a right that puts "Cookie Monster" off balance tumbling to the mat, as Mark Whelan towers over him. Whelan dances around "Cookie Monsters" legs and lands a powerful soccer kick to the head. Mark lays into "Cookie Monsters" thighs and then backs off and tells him to stand up. "Cookie Monster" does so. Whelan snaps back the head of "Cookie Monster" with a stiff jab. Mark fakes a takedown attempt and clinches with "Cookie Monster". Round 5 is finished.
