Round 1
"The Real Deal" narrowly dodges a cross from Markov Petrov, but falls catching him in his guard. Markov drops a few strong punches, opening up Whelans guard, giving him a chance to pass to mount. Whelan gives his back up trying to escape the mount. "The Real Deal" starts to wiggle out of back control, "The Soviet Superstar" lets him escape putting them both on their feet. Mark Whelan is hit with a jab and then taken down with a strong trip takedown. Markov Petrov distracts "The Real Deal" with peppering shots. Markov Petrov then isolates a leg and sinks a achilles lock. "The Real Deal" is able to force his way out but gives up mount in the ensuing scramble. Mark gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Mark Whelan carefully protects himself from Petrovs strikes. Markov Petrov lays into Whelan with some strong shots forcing Whelan to give up mount position. Round 1 is finished.

Round 2
Whelan connects with a hard jab as Petrov attempts a wide outside hook. After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Petrov drops to a knee and attempts a takedown from the clinch. Whelan sets a guillotine choke but Petrov slips out at the last moment. Petrov is now caught in guard. Markov sits up in Mark Whelans open guard and spins to an leg lock. Mark Whelan is able to gator-roll out of it and make it to standing. Markov narrowly dodges a cross from "The Real Deal", but falls catching him in his guard. Petrov grabs the arm of Mark while in guard and holds tight eating shots to ribs. Mark pulls out of the guard of Petrov, stands up, feels it out, and drops a huge right hand to the jaw of Petrov. "The Soviet Superstar" connects with several chop shots from the bottom. Round 2 comes to a close.

Round 3
Markov Petrov is hit with a jab then hook to the body and stumbles backward. "The Real Deal" explodes forward with a push kick that puts Markov Petrov on the canvas. "The Real Deal" lays into Markovs thighs and then backs off and tells him to stand up. Markov does so. Petrov is caught square on the jaw putting him to the canvas, Mark Whelan prepares to pounce, but Petrov gets his bearings just in time. "The Real Deal" cannot find an opening to pounce. The ref brings Markov back to his feet. Whelan locks in a tight muay thai clinch and lands several knees to the ribs of Markov. "The Real Deal" works to Markovs back while standing. "The Real Deal" throws a couple of outside shots until Markov Petrov is able to work his way back to the clinch. "The Soviet Superstar" attempts a knee but is taken down by a basic trip. Whelan lands in half guard. Mark Whelan drops an elbow onto the forehead of "The Soviet Superstar". Markov positions himself back into full guard.Round 3 comes to a close.

Round 4
Petrov plows through Mark with a driving double leg takedown. Mark Whelan dodges some ground strikes from "The Soviet Superstar", and sends a few back of his own. "The Real Deal" backs out of the guard after some unsuccessful motions and both fighters are standing. Markov connects with a strong right hook. A wild hook from "The Real Deal" is ducked by Markov Petrov who lands a cross-hook to the body before backing away. "The Soviet Superstar" stuffs a shot from Whelan and lands some powerful outside hammerfists, eventually taking side mount. Petrov lands a few stiff elbows from side control. Markov attempts an armbar, but Whelan stops the attempt. Markov uses the oppurtunity to take mount. Round 4 is finished.

Round 5
The fighters circle each other. Markov fakes a takedown attempt and clinches with Whelan. A full foot sweep knocks Markov to the ground. Mark grabs a foot and kicks at Markovs thighs. He then backs off and "The Soviet Superstar" stands back up. "The Soviet Superstar" connects with a strong body shot combo. Mark Whelan connects with a hard punch making Markov bring him in to a tight clinch. Mark gets double underhooks, and unleashes unanswered knees to the midsection. Markov drops to a knee and attempts a takedown from the clinch. "The Real Deal" sets a guillotine choke but Markov slips out at the last moment. Markov is now caught in guard. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.
