Round 1 A double-leg shot is stuffed initially by Carpentier, but Russ is able to muscle through for a takedown. Russ Smith defends a triangle attempt, throwing Isaac Carpentiers straight leg over his head and makes a move for side control. Isaac Carpentier is able to hold him to half guard. Russ tries to pull his leg out of half guard, but no luck. Russ slips out of half guard and into side control. Carpentier takes a few knees to the body while under Smiths side control. Russ Smith lands a few stiff elbows from side control. Round 1 is over.
Round 2 Russ Smith is hit with a jab and then taken down with a strong trip takedown. Carpentier drops a few strong punches, opening up Russ Smiths guard, giving him a chance to pass to mount. Russ gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Smith starts to wiggle out of back control, Carpentier lets him escape putting them both on their feet. Russ stuffs a takedown but is backed into a corner and must slide into guard to avoid being picked up. Isaac Carpentier passes through Russs guard into mount. Russ gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Smith carefully protects himself from Carpentiers strikes. Smith starts to wiggle out of back control, Carpentier lets him escape putting them both on their feet. Round 2 is finished.
Round 3 Carpentier fakes a takedown attempt and clinches with Smith. Smith receives a couple of stiff short hooks in the clinch. Isaac recieves a strong elbow opening up the clinch. Isaac Carpentier snaps back the head of Russ with a stiff jab. Russ throws a cross that easily dodged by Isaac Carpentier. Smith is staggered by a jab to the chin. Russ Smith is sent crashing to the mat by a powerful right hook. Isaac Carpentier drops a huge strike to Russ Smiths chin, landing into his guard. The round comes to an end.
