Daniel connects with a series of punches forcing Russ Barnes into a clinch. Russ is able to work to two overhooks and lands some strong knees and short hooks. Daniel takes the back of Barnes who works for a kimura. Daniel pulls his arm out of the hold and push Barnes away. Daniel Simonsen narrowly dodges a cross from Barnes, but falls catching him in his guard. Simonsen fires elbows off his back to the top of the head of Russ Barnes. Daniel dodges some ground strikes from Russ, and sends a few back of his own. Daniel attempts to lock an omoplata, but Barnes is able to muscle his way back to the guard. While using the guard Simonsen sets in an unconventional shoulder lock. Barnes taps.
