Round 1 Cardenas connects with a jab cross combination. Both fighters move in to strike but miss their marks. As they jockey for position in the clinch "La Cobija" wins the momentum battle and falls into side control on top of Combs. Cardenas attempts an armbar, but Jesse stops the attempt. Cardenas uses the oppurtunity to take mount. "Decision" arches his body up to buck off Ruy Cardenas from mount. A scramble takes place leading to both fighters back to their feet. Jesse Combs circles Ruy Cardenas, mixing jabs with body shots. The fighters circle one another hopping in and out trying to find their range. Both fighters move in to strike but miss their marks. Round 2 After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Cardenas gets double underhooks, and unleashes unanswered knees to the midsection. While tied up, "Decision" is met with a hard uppercut. Jesse is met with a cross and a liver shot that staggers him. Ruy explodes with a flurry of punches. Jesse is then thrown to the floor. Cardenas stands over Jesse Combs, works his way through his open guard and lands some solid standing punches. Jesse Combs is able to grab an arm and pull Cardenas into his guard. "La Cobija" takes a risk going for a leglock from being caught in Jesses guard. It doesn't pay off as Combs makes his way to standing. Cardenas takes a punch while shooting but executes the takedown and ends up in Jesse Combss guard. Cardenas knocks the wind out of Jesse Combs with a strong elbow strike to the abdomen. A kimura attempt from Jesse Combs is countered by a punch from Cardenas, who then transitions to half guard. Round 2 comes to a close.
Round 3 Jesse is staggered by a jab to the chin. A single-leg attempt is well defended by Jesse Combs. Ruy Cardenas stands up, lifting the leg of Jesse Combs and executing a trip takedown. Jesse Combs start to move for the kimura but Ruy postures up and drop a powerful double-axe handle that forces Jesse Combs flat on his back. Chop shots lands on Ruys face but he lowers his head, pushes his hand through Combss guard and chucks him to his side. "La Cobija" moves to side control. "La Cobija" slides his knee across the body of Jesse and takes full mount. Combs attempts to escape mount but has no luck. Cardenas jumps out of mount and back to dominant side control. The bell signals the end of round 3.
Round 4 "La Cobija" throws a few jabs at "Decision" that miss the mark. Cardenas throws a few jabs at "Decision" that miss the mark. Combs hits a hook to the body and follows with a power straight that misses. Ruy executes a beautiful double leg takedown, putting Jesse Combs to the mat, and Ruy into side control. Ruy Cardenas drops an unblocked elbow, putting Jesse asleep.
