Round 1
Daniel Simonsen shoots a takedown from a distance putting Yoichi on the ground. Simonsen drops some good punches while being caught in the guard. Simonsen takes a risk going for a leglock from being caught in Egamis guard. It doesn't pay off as Egami makes his way to standing. Daniel parries Yoichi Egamis jab and connect with a cross. Yoichi Egami is staggered by a jab to the chin. Egami attempts to press in but Daniel Simonsen uses a inside reaping to put Egami on the canvas. Daniel Simonsen hops to side control. Simonsen lands a few stiff elbows from side control. Simonsen slides his knee across the body of Yoichi and takes full mount. Round 1 is over.

Round 2
A welt begins to form under Yoichi Egamis eye after a strong cross-hook landed from Simonsen. Daniel narrowly dodges a cross from Yoichi Egami, but falls catching him in his guard. Egami frees a leg and moves into half guard. Yoichi Egami laces the legs of Daniel Simonsen giving Daniel Simonsen the opportunity to somersault over and quickly wrapping up an omoplata. Yoichi Egami somersaults over allowing Daniel Simonsen to take side control. Yoichi sweeps over Daniel and quickly obtains mount position. Egami is pulled in tight, and then switched over on his back. Daniel is now caught in Yoichi Egamis guard. A kimura attempt is defended well by Daniel Simonsen and he is able to sneak his leg through Egamis loose guard, to half guard. Daniel Simonsen is able to slip into mount from the half guard. Yoichi bucks off Daniel Simonsen and both fighters get to their feet. Daniel stuffs a shot from Yoichi Egami and hits him with an outside body shot. Yoichi Egami gives up on the takedown and pulls guard. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.

Round 3
Yoichi Egami winds up a heavy straight but is countered by a hard counter knee to the body. Daniel presses forward and is able to jump up and grab onto Yoichi, aggressively pulling guard. Simonsen gives up guard avoiding a powerful hammer fist. He now has half guard. Daniel defends short shots well by turning his head. Egami attempts to get a leg free and successfully moves into dominant side control. The round comes to an end.

Round 4
Simonsen fakes a takedown attempt and clinches with Yoichi. Daniel works to Yoichi Egamis back while standing. Daniel throws a couple of outside shots until Yoichi Egami is able to work his way back to the clinch. Daniel Simonsen decides to abandon the clinch by pulling guard and bringing Egami with him. Daniel starts to lock a triangle. Yoichi Egami postures up and starts to stand up. Daniel lands a stiff upkick, slumping Yoichi Egami back into his guard. Daniel Simonsen pulls Yoichi close and connects with a few heel strikes to the back. Daniel attempts to lock an omoplata, but Egami is able to muscle his way back to the guard. Yoichi postures up from guard looking for punches but Daniel grabs both his hands and stretches him out. Using his momentum against him Daniel back somersaults bringing Yoichi with him ending with Daniel having full mount. Round 4 is over.

Round 5
Daniel Simonsen sends Egami to the mat with a well timed jab, falling into his guard. Simonsen attempts to set in a hammer lock from being caught in the guard. Yoichi slips out of it at the last moment. Daniel Simonsen sits up in Yoichis open guard and spins to an leg lock. Yoichi is able to gator-roll out of it and make it to standing. Simonsen connects with a combination and backs away from the counter combo of Yoichi. Yoichi Egami hits a lead uppercut and follows with a hard hook to the head of Daniel. Simonsen shoots in and executes a textbook single leg takedown, giving him side control. Daniel attempts to mount, but gets a few punches from Yoichi for his troubles. Daniel Simonsen postures up and lands a couple of strong elbows to the head of Yoichi. Yoichi rolls away from Daniel Simonsen but Daniel Simonsen follows him and takes his back. The round comes to an end.
