Round 1 A welt begins to form under Ruy Cardenass eye after a strong cross-hook landed from "The Mallet". Ruy Cardenas weaves through a jab-cross combo but is hit with a nasty hook. Patty parries Ruys jab and lands a hook that floors Ruy Cardenas. Patty Malley kicks at the legs of Ruy Cardenas and then asks him to stand up. The referee tells Ruy Cardenas to stand. Patty Malley connects with a right that puts Ruy off balance tumbling to the mat, as Patty Malley towers over him. "The Mallet" stands over Ruy Cardenas, works his way through his open guard and lands some solid standing punches. Ruy Cardenas cannot trap him in his guard and pushes him away instead. Malley cannot find an opening to pounce. The ref brings "La Cobija" back to his feet. "The Mallet" blocks a strong high kick from Cardenas and counters with a devastating left hook. "La Cobija" lands a strong outside leg kick that is returned by "The Mallet". Round 1 comes to a close.
Round 2 After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Patty Malley works "La Cobija" into the cage from the clinch. Patty Malley presses his head under Cardenass chin so he cannot defend the piston shots from either side. Cardenas takes Patty Malleys back standing. Malley isolates an arm to lock a spinning kimura but Cardenas lands a sharp shovel punch that forces Malley to release. Both fighters begin to exchange "The Mallet" catches Ruy Cardenas with an eye poke. The referee calls time and lets Ruy Cardenas gather himself. Ruy Cardenas says he is ok and the fight continues. "The Mallet" blocks a hook cross combo but is pushed backward. Cardenas tries to press the action but is met with a hook, uppercut that keeps him at bay. Patty lands a hook to the body. "La Cobija" parries a jab but leaves himself open for a uppercut that sends him to the canvas. Patty stands over "La Cobija", works his way through his open guard and lands some solid standing punches. "La Cobija" is able to grab an arm and pull Patty into his guard. Round 2 is finished.
Round 3 Malley connects with a combination and backs away from the counter combo of "La Cobija". "The Mallet" gets hit with a strong punch, putting him to the mat, but he recovers just in time to give up his back. Cardenas works his arm around the neck of Patty Malley attempting to get a tight rear naked choke but Patty Malley hand fights well. Patty is able to make it back to the standing position. Patty blocks a hook cross combo but is pushed backward. Ruy Cardenas tries to press the action but is met with a hook, uppercut that keeps him at bay. Ruy weaves through a jab-cross combo but is hit with a nasty hook. Patty connects with jab cross combination. The round comes to an end.
Round 4 Patty narrowly dodges a cross from Ruy Cardenas, but falls catching him in his guard. Patty Malley attempts to transition to the butterfly guard but Ruy Cardenas is too quick and takes half guard. Malley attempts to get to full guard but in the process gives up mount. Cardenas throws some outside strikes at Patty Malley. Patty Malley gives his back up trying to escape the mount. Patty Malley carefully protects himself from Cardenass strikes. Ruy Cardenas lands a series of heavy punches forcing Patty to roll to his back, giving Ruy Cardenas mount. The round comes to an end.
Round 5 Both fighters begin to exchange Ruy Cardenas catches Malley with an eye poke. The referee calls time and lets Malley gather himself. Malley says he is ok and the fight continues. Malley lands a hook to the body then a straight cross to the sternum. Patty Malley keeps "La Cobija" at a distance with some well timed jabs. Both fighters trade shots and back away looking for the next opening. "La Cobija" throws a hard jab but Patty Malley throws a cross right over the top rocking "La Cobija". Ruy cuts off the cage to attack and goes desperately for a takedown. Malley catches him a guillotine with his legs tightly wrapped. Ruy has to tap. This one is all over.
