After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Smirnov works Vargas Paiva into a corner from the clinch. Smirnov presses his head under Paivas chin so he cannot defend the piston shots from either side. Paiva dodges an uppercut to the chin, though loses his balance and falls to the ground, with Shura standing over him. Shura attempts to drop a fist on Vargas, but misses and lands in his guard. Vargas shifts his hips to get better position in the guard. Paiva dodges some ground strikes from Smirnov, and sends a few back of his own. "The Spider" shifts his hips to get better position in the guard. While in the guard, Smirnov drops a long punch. Vargas Paiva throws the leg over and rolls it over into an armbar. Smirnov has no choice but to submit.
