Round 1 Thomas keeps Saionji at a distance with some well timed jabs. Barry snaps back the head of "Captain Zipperhead" with a stiff jab. "Captain Zipperhead" fakes a takedown attempt and clinches with Barry. Nao Saionji attempts a takedown from the clinch, but Barry Thomas pulls a switch on him, ultimately leading to both fighters on their feet. A single-leg attempt is well defended by Nao. Barry Thomas stands up, lifting the leg of Nao and executing a trip takedown. "Captain Zipperhead" backs out of the guard after some unsuccessful motions and both fighters are standing. Barry narrowly dodges a cross from Nao Saionji, but falls catching him in his guard. Barry Thomas sets in an omaplata, forcing Nao to roll through, giving Barry Thomas side control. Thomas lands a few stiff elbows from side control. Barry Thomas puts his knee on the belly of Nao. Nao punches up and Barry Thomas falls back with an armbar. Nao taps out.
