Round 1 Both fighters trade glancing shots continuing to find their respective range. Gus connects with a jab cross combination. Dick throws a push kick. Gus Yates shucks it and strikes with a overhand that crashes into Dick Hendrickss nose.
Gus Yates throws a powerful left hook, but is met with a strong jab from Dick. Hendricks circles Gus Yates, keeping him at bay with quick strikes. Round 1 is over.
Round 2 Yates connects with a hard punch making Dick bring him in to a tight clinch. Yates works Dick into the cage from the clinch. Yates presses his head under Hendrickss chin so he cannot defend the piston shots from either side. Yates dodges an uppercut to the chin, though loses his balance and falls to the ground, with Hendricks standing over him. Dick Hendricks attempts to drop a fist on Gus, but misses and lands in his guard. Yates shifts his hips to get better position in the guard. Gus Yates gets his arm underneath the neck of Dick Hendricks while putting his opposite arm on the back of the head. Dick Hendricks powers out of the attempted choke. Gus fires elbows off his back to the top of the head of Hendricks. Gus slides out from bottom grasping the back of Dick allowing him to get back control. The round comes to an end.
Round 3 A jab-hook-uppercut combo has Gus Yates stepping back and shaking the cobwebs out. Gus Yates narrowly dodges a cross from Hendricks, but falls catching him in his guard. Gus Yates attempts an armbar from the bottom, but Hendricks slips out at the last moment. Gus sinks a kimura, but cannot finish. He settles for a switch into mount. Yates secures his position. Yates throws some outside strikes at Dick Hendricks. The bell signals the end of round 3.
