Alvarez drops an elbow onto the forehead of Gray. "Rising Phoenix" hits an upward elbow on Alvarez, and attempts to get to full guard. During the scramble though Alvarez takes side control. "Rising Phoenix" gives his back up in an attempt to get out of side control. "Rising Phoenix" starts to wiggle out of back control, Manuel Alvarez lets him escape putting them both on their feet. "Rising Phoenix" throws a kick to the midsection that is caught by Alvarez. Alvarez lands a sweeping leg kick that puts "Rising Phoenix" on his back. The bell signals the end of round 1.
