Round 1 Cherry takes a heavy kick to the arm attempting to block his head. Leonide Afanasyev stuffs a shot from Kit Cherry and hits him with a hard hook to the temple and pushes him to take his guard. Leonide Afanasyev drops some good punches while being caught in the guard. Leonide defends a triangle attempt, throwing Cherrys straight leg over his head and makes a move for side control. Kit Cherry is able to hold him to half guard. Kit Cherry tries to slip his leg out to get full guard, but is having difficulty. Round 2 Cherry attempts a takedown but slips, and Leonide backs away. Leonide is standing over Cherry. Afanasyev drops a huge strike to Cherrys chin, landing into his guard. Leonide drops a few strong punches, opening up Kit Cherrys guard, giving him a chance to pass to mount. Leonide telegraphs his motions for an armbar, but Cherry gives up his back to stop the attempt. Leonide tries to set in a rear naked choke, but can't quite finish it. Cherry tripods up, causing Leonide to fall forward. A scramble ensues and Cherry is able to take guard. The bell signals the end of round 2.
Round 3 Kit Cherry is staggered by a jab to the chin. After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Cherry attempts to grab the plum but Afanasyev takes the opportunity to attain double underhooks and take down Cherry. Leonide Afanasyev takes a risk going for a leglock from being caught in Kit Cherrys guard. It doesn't pay off as Kit makes his way to standing. Leonide Afanasyev narrowly dodges a cross from Cherry, but falls catching him in his guard. Leonide lands a stiff elbow while on his back. Leonide Afanasyev goes for a kimura from the bottom, but Kit Cherry slips out at the last second. Kit attempts a huge overhand right but Leonide Afanasyev bucks back and switches Kit into mount. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.
