Round 1 Vargas catches a leg kick from Griffin, and puts him on the mat. Vargas is working a furious pace inside of the guard of Griffin. Bull attempts a sloppy triangle attempt allowing Vargas the chance to pass to side control. Griffin takes a few knees to the body while under Javier Vargass side control. Javier slides his knee across the body of Griffin and takes full mount. Vargas maintains mount but laying some well timed strikes. Bull Griffin gives his back up trying to escape the mount. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.
Round 2 Javier Vargas grabs for a clinch but Bull grazes him with an uppercut. Javier Vargas staggers back, then surprises Bull with a powerful superman punch. Vargas shoots in for a double leg, hoists Bull up, and slams him viciously to the mat, taking side control. Javier lands a few stiff elbows from side control. Bull Griffin gives his back up in an attempt to get out of side control. Javier Vargas slides off to the side of Bull Griffin and lands several heavy knees into his ribs. Before he can lose the position, Javier Vargas switches back to full back control. Vargas slides off to the side of Griffin and lands several heavy knees into his ribs. Round 3 Javier lands a hook to the body then a straight cross to the sternum. After an exchange of punches, the fighters engage in the clinch. Javier Vargas escapes the clinch and creates some distance. Griffin throws a few strikes allowing him to clinch with his opponent. Bull is jockeying for position in the clinch. "The Gila Monster" executes a sweeping throw, planting Javier Vargas on the mat. Javier Vargas almost switches side control around, but falls short at the last moment. Griffin lands a few stiff elbows from side control. The bell signals the end of round 3.
