Round 1 The fighters advance and touch gloves. Fournier reaches down and trips Mark Whelan with a beautiful ankle pick. Fournier dives into back control. Fournier is working a furious pace on Whelan, intermingling strikes with positional dominance at will. Mark starts to wiggle out of back control, Fournier lets him escape putting them both on their feet. Whelan attempts a takedown, but cannot finish it. Ricardeau Fournier takes advantage of the moment taking side control. Ricardeau slides his knee across the body of "The Real Deal" and takes full mount. "Timbits" secures his position. Mark attempts to buck Ricardeau Fournier off from mount but Ricardeau Fournier keeps his base and maintains position. The bell signals the end of round 1.
Round 2 Whelan buckles Fournier with a kick. Whelan rushes forward to grab a guillotine, then falls to guard. Fournier is in trouble but is able to muscles his way out of the choke. "Timbits" pushes down Whelans leg, allowing him to pass guard into half guard. Fournier tries to pull his leg out of half guard, but no luck. Ricardeau Fournier presses his foot onto the thigh of Mark Whelan to get his own foot free. He successfully releases his leg and moves to side control. Mark almost switches side control around, but falls short at the last moment. Whelan sneaks a leg back under the body of Ricardeau to achieve a defensive half guard. Whelan tries to scramble out of half guard, but "Timbits" takes his back during it. Fournier lands a double punch to the head of "The Real Deal". Whelan rolls back into being mounted. Round 2 is over.
Round 3 "Timbits" is rocked by a standing elbow strike. "Timbits" parries a jab but is caught by a strong leg kick. Mark Whelan grabs the plum and lands a strong elbow to the head of Ricardeau. Ricardeau looks at Mark Whelan and points to the center of the cage. Both Fighters begin wildly trading blow for blow. Ricardeau attempts a jab but is countered by a hard right leg kick to the knee and is instantly followed by a hard elbow to the chin. The ref stops the fight as the round comes to an end.
